Another Spate of Cancellation For Airlines
It is the second time in 12 months that airlines have reported massive cancellations, citing weather, and “other issues”. The last time it turned out to be due to a possible fallout from vaccination mandates by some airlines for their staff. Many are hoping that this is not a flare-up of that past situation. In this week’s On Aviation™ digest, we share a few articles and stories on the cancellations this weekend, with the hope that there can be a greater insight into this set of cancellations. There is still more to be learned about what caused this rash of cancellations, and so as the traveling public, we have to wait on further information.

Southwest apologizes and blames technology glitch for hundreds of flight cancellations…
Southwest Airlines apologized to customers after hundreds of flights were canceled and more than 1,000 were delayed on Saturday. According to FlightAware data, the airline canceled 518 flights. A further 1,486 were delayed. Southwest said the disruptions were due to an “intermittent technology issue” and ongoing weather challenges.

Spring break travel mess: Airlines cancel, delay 12,000 weekend flights
Airlines canceled and delayed more than 10,000 Saturday and Sunday flights because of storms in Florida and a technology issue at Southwest Airlines, stranding travelers across the country and creating long wait times to reach airline customer service. More than 3,400 flights have been canceled and 8,800 flights delayed this weekend as of 3:15 p.m. ET Sunday, according to flight tracker FlightAware.

Airlines cancel more than 3,500 U.S. flights over weekend
Airlines have canceled more than 3,500 U.S. flights this weekend and delayed thousands more, citing weather in Florida and other issues. FlightAware, a website that tracks flights, noted major disruptions at several Florida airports, including in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Tampa and Orlando, as well as Baltimore, New York and other airports around the country. JetBlue, Southwest, Alaska Airlines, Frontier, Spirit and American Airlines were most affected, according to FlightAware, with JetBlue and Spirit canceling one-third of Sunday’s scheduled flights.
